We do not collect any data beyond what is necessary to process your order or send you communications you've opted into.
How we use your data
We use your data for the following purposes:
For order processing and delivery: — To confirm and process your order — To communicate order status, shipping updates, and tracking information — To handle replacement requests if applicable — To share your name, phone number, and delivery address with our shipping partner (Shiprocket/Delhivery/XpressBees) solely for the purpose of delivering your order
For marketing (only if you've opted in): — To send you emails about new drops, restocks, and offers via Klaviyo — To send you WhatsApp broadcasts about new collections and updates — You can unsubscribe from any marketing communication at any time with one click or by replying STOP
We do not use your data for anything beyond the above. We do not run profiling, sell data, or use it for any automated decision-making.
Who we share your data with
We only share your data with the tools that help us run our business. These are:
Shopify — our e-commerce platform. They host our store and process order data. Shopify is GDPR compliant. Privacy policy at shopify.com/legal/privacy.
Our payment gateway. They process your payment securely. We never see your full card, UPI, or net banking details. Razorpay is PCI-DSS compliant. Privacy policy at razorpay.com/privacy.
Shipping partner (Shiprocket / Delhivery / XpressBees) — your name, phone number, and delivery address are shared with our logistics partner solely to deliver your order. Nothing else is shared.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any other third party — ever. Not for advertising, not for analytics, not for any other purpose.
Cookies
Our website uses cookies to keep your cart active, remember your preferences, and understand how visitors use the site (via Shopify's built-in analytics). We do not use third-party advertising cookies beyond the Meta Pixel, which helps us measure the performance of our Instagram ads. You can disable cookies in your browser settings at any time.
How long we keep your data
We retain your order and account data for as long as necessary to fulfil your order, handle any replacement requests, and meet our legal and tax obligations. If you ask us to delete your data, we will do so promptly — see below.

If you want your personal data deleted from our records, email us at hello@backbenchtheory.com. We will delete your data within 14 working days, except where we are legally required to retain it (for example, transaction records for tax purposes).

We take reasonable steps to protect your data. All transactions are processed over encrypted HTTPS connections. Payment data is handled entirely by Razorpay and never stored on our servers. Access to customer data within our team is limited to only what is necessary to run the business.
